Work on your shot:
Use the BEEF model:
- Balance: Keep your feet shoulder width apart, and knees bent so you have better balance.- Eyes: Keep your eyes on the hoop, pick a spot to shoot for. The backboard, or the back of the rim.
- Elbow: Keep your elbow tucked in, at a 90 degree angle for a straighter shot.
- Follow Through: At the top of your shot, bend your wrist like you are reaching into the net. This will put a spin on the ball, and make it easier to bounce in if you are off.
Defense:
Be a great defensive player:
- STAY LOW. This is the most important part of playing defense. Staying low allows you to have more balance, and you can shuffle your feet faster.- Play with your feet: Shuffle your feet instead of using your hands to try and grab the ball. More often than not, if you use your hands, you'll get a foul.
- Look at the chest: When playing defense, stay low and look at your opponents chest. An offensive player can use ball fakes or head fakes to try and make you move. The chest is the last part to move, and you can be more sure of where the opposition is moving.
Part of a team:
Be a team player:
- Be positive. A positive attitude can have a good effect on your teammates and help them play better.- Pass the ball. Sure, we all like to score. But if someone has a better chance at scoring than you, give them the ball!
